My Chemical Romance in Argentina, a night of pure “EMOtion”
Sunday, February 1st, was a historic day, and undoubtedly unforgettable for a generation of young people and adults!
Almost 18 years since their first visit, one of the most iconic bands of the emo era returned: My Chemical Romance (MCR) celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Black Parade with the massive “Long Live: The Black Parade” tour in 2026, performing the album in its entirety.
Speaking briefly about the iconic and famous album, ‘The Black Parade’ has been one of the most influential in shaping the aesthetics of the emo subculture.
“Welcome to the Black Parade” and “Famous Last Words” became anthems for millions of young people around the world.
To kick things off, on a sunny, very hot afternoon at Estadio Huracán, the national band Nenagenix, took the stage. This alternative rock, emo, post-punk, and grunge band hails from Buenos Aires. They have become a solid presence in the current Argentine alternative scene, known for their emotional lyrics and raw sound.

The Hives, the special guest band of MCR, took the stage with their characteristic charisma! Opening with “Enough Is Enough,” the crowd started jumping! Something I want to highlight is Pelle Almqvist—what a fun character! Speaking Spanish, and his famous “Preparidos” instead of “preparados,” a show with a lot of audience interaction. The Swedes’ charisma, combined with their impeccable, illuminated formal attire, made a huge show!

The moment most anticipated by emos for almost 20 years was about to begin: the return of My Chemical Romance to Argentinian stages!
A street sweeper, a nurse, and the band entered the stage in their black uniforms with white trim from The Black Parade.
The performance, set in an autocracy under the regime of the Great Immortal Dictator, has a dark, military aesthetic.
“Seventeen years have passed since The Black Parade was banished to limbo. During that time, a great dictator rose to power, giving rise to ‘THE CONCRETE ERA,’ a glorious time of stability and abundance in the history of DRAAG,” states the tour’s promotional video.
The show began with a cinematic ambition: the band decided to play their entire work, The Black Parade, from beginning to end.
As was known, the most acclaimed and sung along to were the wonderful “Welcome to the Black Parade” and “Famous Last Words.”
After completing this first conceptual block, the band took a long break. During this time, a woman played the cello, and the fans eagerly awaited what would come next.
MCR returned to the stage without their uniforms, in normal clothes, and with a new persona.
“We’re back to normal,” Way said before launching into the second part of the show, opening with “Bury Me in Black,” the tour’s debut song.
Then came an unexpected moment: the first chords of “The Ghost Of You” began, and we all screamed with joy. Personally, it’s one of my favorite songs by the band.
“I’m Not Okay (I Promise),” which couldn’t be left out, sent the audience into a frenzy of mosh pits, shouts, jumping, and singing.
The end was approaching, and the best and most beautiful song by MCR began to play (which Gerard wrote dedicated to his grandmother, whom he couldn’t say goodbye to) “Helena,” the most “EMOtional” moment of the night. Who didn’t shed a tear? Singing with all their fervor, with the stadium full, shaking and making Parque Patricios vibrate, My Chemical Romance proved that being EMO was not just a phase.
