Rock in Rio completes the lineups for the World Stage and Sunset Stage on September 4th and 5th, days when rock will be the main attraction.

On the World Stage, September 4th features Rise Against, The Hives, and Nova Twins, while September 5th hosts mgk (Machine Gun Kelly) and Sepultura. In the 2026 edition, Rock in Rio will have two full days dedicated to the genre that helped shape the entire history of the festival, bringing together names from different generations and styles to open Rock in Rio with maximum energy. On September 4th, Rise Against makes its highly anticipated debut in the City of Rock, bringing to the stage the power of one of the most relevant bands in contemporary punk rock. Before them, the Swedish band The Hives will bring their explosive garage rock and intense performances to the festival for the first time, establishing them as one of the most remarkable names in the 2000s rock revival. Opening the World Stage on the 4th, the British duo Nova Twins makes its debut in Brazil, bringing its unique and electrifying sound that mixes different rock styles. On the 5th, mgk (Machine Gun Kelly) takes the stage, also performing for the first time at Rock in Rio, bringing the energy of their pop-punk phase – responsible for putting the style back at the center of pop culture in recent years. Opening this day is one of the biggest names in the history of Brazilian rock and metal: Sepultura. The band will perform their penultimate show of their career at the City of Rock, in a unique and exclusive performance that will do justice to their entire legacy in music. On the Sunset Stage, both days also highlight different facets of the genre. On September 4th, the stage closes with Capital Inicial, presenting a special show in tribute to Renato Russo, inviting Dado Villa-Lobos, the historic guitarist of the band Legião Urbana. The encounter celebrates 30 years since Renato’s passing, commemorating his entire legacy. Before them, the British band Hot Milk performs for the first time at the festival, bringing to the City of Rock the energy of one of the most promising names of the new generation of UK rock. Detonautas invite Biquini for a show filled with hits, while Di Ferrero opens the Sunset Stage with a show showcasing different phases of his career, sure to thrill fans with songs that have spanned generations. On the 5th, female presence will be a major highlight on the Sunset Stage. The headliner is Bad Omens, making their Rock in Rio debut and solidifying their rise as one of the most influential names in modern rock, with billions of streams, thousands of fans in Brazil and worldwide, and hits that have dominated the rock charts in recent years. Before that, American artist Poppy will also make her festival debut, bringing her bold mix of metal, pop, and experimentalism – a trajectory that has already earned her GRAMMY nominations and a reputation as one of the most inventive artists on the current scene – in addition to shows by Black Pantera featuring Nervosa, in a unique and powerful encounter, and Malvada featuring Day Limns, another original Rock in Rio show this year, which will kick off a Sunset stage program marked by powerful women in current rock and metal.

The first day of the 2026 edition of Rock in Rio features Rise Against, The Hives, and Nova Twins on the World Stage. On September 4th, Rise Against makes its Rock in Rio debut, taking the World Stage before Foo Fighters, bringing the power of one of the most relevant contemporary punk rock bands to the City of Rock. Formed in 1999 in Chicago, the group consists of Tim McIlrath (vocals and rhythm guitar), Zach Blair (lead guitar), Joe Principe (bass), and Brandon Barnes (drums). MGK (Machine Gun Kelly) and Sepultura will perform on the World Stage on September 5th. On September 5th, when Avenged Sevenfold closes the World Stage shows and Bring Me The Horizon also performs there, mgk makes his debut at Rock in Rio. The performance will mark their farewell to the festival and will also be the penultimate show of their world tour, before their definitive end in São Paulo. Present since the second edition in 1991, the group has built a deep relationship with Rock in Rio over the decades, starring in iconic moments, remarkable collaborations, and innovative performances – such as the encounters with Tambours du Bronx in 2011 and with Zé Ramalho in 2013, in addition to performances at international editions in Lisbon, Las Vegas, and Madrid, among many other highlights. With a trajectory marked by constant reinvention and global impact, the band has built a unique sonic identity by combining thrash metal, groove metal, and Brazilian influences, helping to expand the boundaries of the genre. Bad Omens, Poppy, Black Pantera featuring Nervosa, and Malvada featuring Day Limns will perform on the Sunset Stage on September 5th. Headlining the Sunset Stage on September 5th and making their Rock in Rio debut, Bad Omens are reshaping the look and feel of modern rock: cinematic, emotionally charged, and made for big productions. Following the resounding success of The Death of Peace of Mind (2022), an RIAA-certified Gold album that propelled their catalog to over 2.7 billion global streams, the band’s trajectory shifted from cult favorite to undeniable force. Before that, American artist Poppy will perform for the first time at Rock in Rio. An insatiable inventiveness has propelled the artist’s surrealist rise through countless corners of the art and music worlds, with each of her many projects revealing a different glimpse of a true visionary, detached from genres, indifferent to conventions, and always defying expectations. It is this eclecticism that has solidified Poppy’s reputation as a boundary-breaking artist, recording music that ranges from brutal metal breakdowns and 60s bubblegum pop to trap-pop and grunge-punk. Her 2021 GRAMMY nomination for Best Metal Performance (“BLOODMONEY”) marked the first time a female solo artist was nominated in that category. In 2025, Poppy received her second GRAMMY nomination for Best Metal Performance for her collaboration with Knocked Loose on the track “Suffocate”. Poppy’s last few years have been memorable, including tours with 30 Seconds to Mars and Avenged Sevenfold, and the release of successful collaborative singles with artists such as Bad Omens (“V.A.N.”), Knocked Loose (“Suffocate”), and Baby Metal (“from me to u”). Now, the artist dives into her next bold era with the release of her fifth album, Negative Spaces. Later that same day, Black Pantera invites Nervosa for a unique show that will energize the Sunset Stage. Formed by brothers Charles da Gama (vocals and guitar) and Chaene Gama (bass and vocals), along with Rodrigo Pancho (drums), Black Pantera emerged in 2014 in Uberaba-MG. In 2020, they released the single “I Can’t Breathe,” in reference to the murder of George Floyd, and the EP Capítulo Negro, with reinterpretations of anti-racist songs. In 2022, they presented Ascensão, a watershed moment in the trio’s career. In 2024, they released their fourth album, PERPÉTUO, expanding their sound and strengthening their identity. In 2025, Black Pantera won the APCA award in the “Best Song” category with the track “TRADUÇÃO,” from the album PERPÉTUO. The band Nervosa has already carved out a space for itself in the international thrash metal scene with tours alongside big names in the genre and a trajectory marked by acclaimed albums. In 2023, the band achieved prominent positions on “best albums of the year” lists in several countries with Jailbreak, which includes tracks such as “Endless Ambition,” “Seed of Death,” “Sacrifice,” and “Jailbreak” itself. With a discography that also includes works like Perpetual Chaos (2021) and Downfall of Mankind (2018), in addition to the recent singles “Slave Machine” and “Ghost Notes,” the group has established itself as one of the main references in female metal and thrash metal worldwide. Opening the venue’s performances, Malvada invites Day Limns in an original Rock in Rio show. Malvada is a modern hard rock band formed by Indira Castillo (vocals), Juliana Salgado (drums), Bruna Tsuruda (guitar), and Rafaela Reoli (bass). Known for their striking stage presence and electrifying energy, the band has shared the stage with artists such as Tom Morello, Pitty, and Extreme. In 2025, they released their second album, Malvada, on the renowned Italian label Frontiers Records. Named by Rolling Stone Brazil as one of the 25 artists shaping the future of music, Malvada is pure rock powerhouse. Day Limns, on the other hand, is a singer, songwriter, and writer, as well as one of the most authentic voices of the new generation of Brazilian music. During her more alternative pop-rock phase – with projects like Bem-vindo ao Clube, VÊNUS≠netuno, and VÊNUSNETUNO II – she gained recognition in the scene, opening shows for artists such as Avril Lavigne, 5 Seconds of Summer, Pitty, Fresno, NX Zero, and Fletcher, in addition to performing at the country’s main festivals.

Rock in Rio arrives full of surprises in 2026. Scheduled to take place at Cidade do Rock, in the Olympic Park of Rio de Janeiro, on September 4, 5, 6, 7 and 11, 12 and 13, 2026, Rock in Rio has already announced several names in the lineup. Among those confirmed for the first weekend of Rock in Rio, September 4th features Foo Fighters as the headliner on the Palco Mundo (World Stage). On the 5th, the Palco Mundo will host Avenged Sevenfold closing the shows on that stage, in addition to a performance by Bring Me The Horizon. On the holiday of September 7th, the Palco Mundo will feature Elton John as the main attraction, as well as shows by Gilberto Gil, Jon Batiste and Luísa Sonza inviting Roberto Menescal. On the same date, on the Palco Sunset (Sunset Stage), the public will be able to watch performances by Laufey, Péricles sings Motown, Roupa Nova inviting Guilherme Arantes, and Vanessa da Mata inviting Rubel. The New Dance Order stage will host Fatboy Slim. On the second weekend of Rock in Rio, September 11th brings Stray Kids as the headliner to the Palco Mundo stage, in addition to shows by Alok, HWASA, and NEXZ. On the same date, the Palco Sunset lineup includes Jamiroquai, PJ Morton, Os Garotin inviting Duquesa, and Jota.pê inviting Luedji Luna and Zaynara. On September 12th, the Palco Mundo stage will feature Maroon 5 closing the day’s shows, along with Demi Lovato, J Balvin, and Pedro Sampaio. Also on the 12th, the Palco Sunset will host Mumford & Sons, João Gomes with the Orquestra Brasileira, Gilsons inviting Daniela Mercury and Olodum, as well as a collaboration between Criolo, Amaro Freitas, and Dino D’Santiago. Beyond the artists, the festival arrives with remarkable new features: the World Stage gains a completely new set design and, for the first time, its entire front structure will be covered by 2,400 m² of high-definition LED panels, transforming the space into a single, immense visual panel. The largest dance floor in Rock City, the New Dance Order, also returns in 2026 with a completely new set design, 56.50 meters wide and 22.5 meters high, reinforcing its monumental presence at the festival. The stage further enhances the audience experience, while the 502 m² of LED panels are one of the highlights of the visual project, creating an immersive atmosphere that integrates music, light, and movement. Another novelty is the Gourmet Square, which will feature a curation signed by chef Pedro Siqueira, recognized among the 100 best pizza makers in the world by The Best Pizza Awards 2025, who will also bring the gastronomy of Sìsì to one of the restaurants in the space. Another highlight is the return of the aerial show The Flight, one of the most requested moments by the public, returning after historic performances at the festival – promising even more excitement with synchronized acrobatic maneuvers, a special soundtrack, and 756 daytime fireworks displays.
