GUNNER, Interview
The Argentine Hard Rock band GUNNER formed in 2010, releasing the first album “Desire” 2010, recently released the album “Sinner” (2023), under the Icarus Music record label.
Today GUNNER takes the time to give us this interview, to talk about the beginnings of the band, the new album, and of course the next show, this June 8 at El Teatrito.
SUNRAY: Hello guys, how are you? For those who do not yet know this wonderful Hard Rock and Glam Rock band, could you tell us about your beginnings, we know at the beginning you were called Gunner Sixx, and we would like to know that story, and why had to change the name
Gunner: Hi, first of all thanks for the interview, well at the beginning our first name was Gunner Sixx because it’s Nikki Sixx son’s name, as a kind of Tribute I think cause we were Motley Crue fans when we were teenagers but when our first album came out our label organized a tour with Motley Crue and when Nikki Sixx saw our bands name his lawyers send us they’re legal terms to intimidate us to changed our name, so we had to did it and we couldn’t toured so we changed our name to Gunner without “Sixx” and record company has to changed the album cover too, links and all our stuff.
SUNRAY: Who Are Your Biggest Influences?
Gunner: Everyone’s in the band has their own influences, you can find some 70’s, 80s and 90’s stuff like Jouney, Toto, Van Halen, Firehouse and many many others.
SUNRAY: When I saw you live, for the first time, I saw wonderful potential in you, from the performance, the costumes, the way you sound, Javier’s voice, a complete complement, nothing to envy of a Glam Rock band from abroad, just for mention bands Reckless Love, Crazy Lixx (band for which you opened last March 13) among others, of course, making songs in English, you have more access to the international market, which we know you have targeted since your beginnings, you are planning to do some international tour?
Gunner: Now with social media everyone’s sing in english, it’s the language of Rock, european bands, latins, and oriental artists too, since our first album we could put our music in all markets, to everyone, it’s easier singing in english and composing too but in spanish you don’t get many chances in other countrys, and yes we have a lot of invitations for touring but it’s complicated to move on and have the right offer , we are talking about it with many promoters out there, we hope we can get it soon.
SUNRAY: Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Gunner: I think Europe can be a big deal for us or even bands of another genres like Stratovarius or Judas priest.
SUNRAY: How does your creative process work – do all members contribute equally or is there one main songwriter?
GUNNER: Most of the time songs or ideas starts with a guitar riff and then the singers put the lyrics, then in the pre production of the albums everyone’s make their own parts or arrengements too, being only one guitar in the band you have to make almost all the melodic parts and music lines.
SUNRAY: Speaking about new music, you have recently released your new Studio Album, “Sinner” what can you tell us about it?

Gunner: It’s the first album that we can record like the “old school” , that’s why so special for us, it’s so “organic” you can listen the whole band playing in a room at the same time, it was a Live situation, not like now that everyone’s record their own part separately and then put it all together in the mix, it was fantastic for us as a musicians to have this experience, but to do that you may have a good studio like “La nave de Oseberg” where you can have the production to make it.
SUNRAY: What is the most representative song of the band on this new album?
Gunner: Never is only one song, for us a record it’s a trip where you can have different places, moments, views and sounds, every song has their own moment, you have fun, party, reflexing, sandness, vintage and all kind of sensations there, go for it and chek it out.
SUNRAY: Next June 8th you will be performing at the Teatrito. How are you preparing for that long-awaited evening? Can you tell us something about what we can enjoy that night?
Gunner: We are planning a big production with all the condiments, here in Argentina, most of the time, bands forget the word “Show” and only concentrated in play the songs so people pay the ticket to see a Live band, not only five guys seeing their instruments, it’s a Rock show so that’s we are preparing for our fans and friends, there will be guest musicians, visual arts, the best lights and stage that you can ask.
