A Magical Night with “Therion” in Argentina
THERION returned to Argentina after a little over a year. In 2023, the band concluded its trilogy of albums with “Leviathan,” and of course, it had to go on a world tour to celebrate.
Since its first visit more than 30 years ago, in the 1990s, Therion has never ceased to surprise us.
Opening the evening the local band, “In Element” always gives an explosive show, with the power that characterizes them, leaving us ready for what was expected of the night.
When the big moment arrived, Therion took the stage, starting with “Seven Secrets of the Sphinx” followed without pause by a classic “The Crowning of Atlantis” The audience from the very beginning with great fervor!
Regarding the vocals, what can I say? Incredible! From the band’s historic soprano Lori Lewis, to some exceptional gutturals from Rosalía Sairem, and the undeniable talent of Thomas Vikström, they left us speechless with their wonderful and powerful voices.
On the other hand, the master of ceremonies Christofer Johnsson, together with the guitarist Christian Vidal, (Argentine pride), the wonderful bassist Chris Davidsson, and the talented drummer Sami Karppinen, completed absolute perfection with their performances.
Of course, the whole audience, including myself, was waiting for a few words from our Christian Vidal, and the moment arrived. Chris took the microphone and started saying a few words in “Argentine” Spanish. It was a very nice and emotional moment, making jokes and asking how his favorite soccer team River Plate was playing! A beautiful person, with incredible talent, and absolute humility, worthy of admiration.
The tour was meant to showcase the Leviathan saga, which is why we were able to hear several songs from this last stage of the group. But there was no shortage of classics like “Ginnungagap” from “Secret of The Runes” in 2001.
Several moments were marked by the usual classics. “Clavicula Nox”, “Black Sun” and “Wine of Aluqah” testified on behalf of the remembered album ‘Vovin’ (1998), while “Nightside of Eden”
After a short break, they left the band’s valuable pieces for last, which we were all waiting for: “The Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah” and “Son of the Staves of Time”
I can say that we enjoyed a show that lasted more than two hours, leaving us all more than satisfied.
