IRON MAIDEN, Rocked Buenos Aires

December 1st was the expected date and the moment had arrived. The announced downpour had already passed and only a few clouds appeared in the sunny sky of Parque Patricios, where Malón, who based on classics and very well-accepted songs from his last stage, had made a very successful opening on the stage, where the maiden would once again appear with the “The Future Past” Tour. And so it starts: “Doctor Doctor” by UFO ends playing as usual.

The stadium goes completely dark. Blue lights begin to appear on the stage ceiling, typical of a very 80s stage design, while Blade Runner (end title) plays, (the intro of the TV show, First Division Football, for us Argentine soccer fans) and the time travel starts with the intro of “Caught somewhere in time” and the band goes out to kill!!. Up top the input sound was flawless, powerful, and clear. Chief Harris‘ bass was pounding like a pineapple while below the madness of the avalanches of those who wanted to see the maiden up close, Those who were escaping from suffocation, and those of us who were wondering if we were going to endure such intensity for the next two hours were mixed in total euphoria.

Fortunately, we held on, because from the mosh and the pushes we had incredible postcards like seeing Janick Gers sunbathing in the celebrated “Heaven Can Wait” while in the background Bruce Dickinson was shooting with Eddie Cyborg in an epic shootout.

Maiden‘s performance was perfect, despite leaving us wanting to hear some classics. The guys presented several songs from their latest album “Senjutsu” that were also widely sung in the Huracán field, such as “The Writing on the Wall”, the perfect “Death of the Celts” or “Hell on Heart”.In contrast, with its post-apocalyptic backdrop and flames of fire coming out of the stage they gave us another postcard to remember. Bruce, charismatic as always, managed the show, giving his soul in each performance with a feeling and a vocal technique that is astonishing considering the years he has been around, “Alexander the Great” or “The Trooper” was a clear example.

As always, with his seriousness and good taste, Adrián gave us exquisite moments such as the solo of “Stranger in Stranger Land”, the unexpected “The Prisoner”, “Can I Play with Madness”, “Fear of the Dark” and “Iron Maiden”. With the three guitars sounding perfect in that glorious riff they drove the audience crazy, making room for the mosh pit.

Dave Murray played every solo and every arrangement, he looked calm but with joy on his face, and the impeccable Nicko McBrain was most appreciated when he left his drum kit after closing with the wonderful “Wasted Years” to throw one of his drum heads which fell into the hands of the person writing this review, leaving another unforgettable memory.

With the hope that, as Bruce said at one point during the concert, they will return with a new Tour in the not-too-distant future.
