Rise of the Northstar, Buenos Aires debut

The long-awaited moment finally arrived for many fans who have been following the French band Rise of the Northstar since 2012. For the first time, the group landed on Argentine soil — though it wasn’t their first time in South America, as they had previously performed in Brazil a few years ago, the only stop of that tour on this side of the continent.

Doors opened around 7:10 PM, and just minutes later, the Argentine band Dance Floor Justice kicked things off, sparking the first slam dancing circles of the night.

Next up was Darlo Todo, a band that’s been climbing steadily show after show and now touring behind their second studio album. Despite a few sound issues at the beginning, they quickly found their balance, delivering a solid set that included their best-known songs — and even a surprise Korn cover, which got the crowd hyped for what’s to come next May. Could Darlo Todo be opening for Korn soon? We’ll see.

Then it was time for the main event. One by one, the members of Rise of the Northstar took the stage: “Eva-B” wearing a samurai-style mask covering his mouth; “Air One” with his massive beard and a bandana over his shaved head; “Yoru” with his long hair flying everywhere, backing vocals included — something the whole band does throughout the show; “Phantom” behind the drums; and “Vithia”, sporting a ROTNS jacket and a cap that hid his eyes, ready to tear down El Teatrito.

They opened with Nekketsu, and from that moment on, it was pure energy. The band went through the best of their discography without taking a single break. Toward the end, they threw in their signature anime medley, a nod to the Japanese influences that define their identity.

Two songs that were played in other countries didn’t make it to the Argentine set — Neon Paris and Samurai Spirit — but nobody seemed to mind; the crowd never stopped moving. To close things out, Vithia climbed onto the barrier to sing shoulder-to-shoulder with the fans, wrapping up a night that everyone will remember — and hoping their return isn’t far away.
