ESCAPE THE FATE In Argentina, “returning to adolescence for one night”
Last Friday, September 27th, at the Uniclub Argentina, the Abasto area again had an “emos” meeting in front of the shopping mall.
Many of us will remember those afternoons in Abasto, young people getting together to talk about their favorite bands, one of which, iconic of course, was Escape The Fate.
After more than 10 years since their last visit, the band returned to make the city of Buenos Aires vibrate, led by Craig Mabbitt (vocalist) and Robert Ortiz, (drummer, founding member) with the incredible guitarist and chorus, TJ Bells, on bass and chorus the great Erik Jensen, and lead guitar the “King of guitar” Matti Hoffman.
We had the pleasure and honor of attending the meet and greet and backstage, getting to know the boys a little better, each of them was very charismatic, 100% dedicated to giving their best, and an unmatched humility that makes them unique!
At the meet & greet, we were able to see the beautiful and sweet treatment to their fans, allowing each one to spend a moment with them, talking, signing flags, and CDs, and taking photos, they are not only great musicians without a doubt, but also wonderful people.
Now, we have to talk about the “best part of the night” THE SHOW! Before going on stage we saw the guys preparing for what would be an unforgettable night for many of us, Escape the Fate took the stage at 21:30, opening the evening with “We Won’t Back Down” and the audience completely exploded!
They started the setlist with the band’s first tracks, “On to the Next One”, “Ashley”, “Something”, “The Flood”, “You Are So Beautiful” and one of my favorite hits of the band “This War Is Ours” (The Guillotine II), where they took everyone back to that time, enjoying each song, with pure emotion, jumps, mosh pits.
As the concert went on, the band constantly interacted with the audience, with the sweet Craig happy to be back and grateful to his fans, at one point the audience started singing Happy Birthday to Matti, and the beloved TJ made him play some little solos! Funny moment of the night!
But this would not be the long-awaited solo of Guitar King Matti, the great expectant moment of enjoyment would come, the ” true solo” with those wonderful unmatched riffs, what a huge talent has this guy!
After a short break from the band, waiting for the songs from the latest albums, the boys return to the stage with “H8 MY SELF”, from their recently released album, continuing with “Low”( where the great Craig asked the fans to make a space in the middle, to explode with a huge mosh pit in the middle of the song and so it was!!!)
But this wasn’t the end, there was still a lot more to come, in the audience there was a fan “Alejo” with a sign asking the band to play “Gorgeous Nightmare” with them, the adorable TJ Bells said wait what do they say there? And made him go up on stage giving him his guitar, and he went down with the crowd to encourage the boy among the fans. Alejo gave it his all, he looked like a member of the band.
With TJ returning to “his place” “Broken Heart” began, then the wonderful song “Cheers to Goodbye” (one of my favorites from his last album) and the end was near, closing the wonderful show with “One for the Money” one of his greatest hits, leaving us all on a high note!!
Something to highlight is the live professionalism of these guys, and the incredible vocal ranges of the wonderful Craig, the deep and powerful sounds of the drums by Robert.
I want to give a special thanks to Craig Mabbitt for allowing us to be part of that great night, recording every moment, thank you for the humility and respect we received during your visit, and of course to the whole band, who made us feel like family!
Come back soon, Argentina will be waiting for you!
