Interview with “Denis Stoff”

We are pleased to interview one of the most beautiful voices of Metal Core, “DENIS STOFF” the Ukrainian musician, best known for his work as a Singer in Asking Alexandria and Make Me Famous. In January 2022 we had the privilege to interview him about his career and his band Drag Me Out, being part of our cover!

On this occasion we will talk about his new projects, his band “The Serpent’s Tears” and his recently released single “Symbol Of Hope”, take a look!

SUNRAY: Hi Denis, first thank you so much for giving us this interview, our second interview, that is great!! you just formed a new Rock band called “The Serpent’s Tears” please tell us all about it

Denis: You’re very welcome! Yeah, I just launched a new project and it feels great, you know? Getting to work on new music with my bassist Aimi who is my dear fiancee who truly adores metal and heavy music + my good old friend that I used to play in a local band with 17 years ago felt super essential and nice.
We’ve got an album finished already and right now we’re trying to get some singles out before we will drop the LP.

SUNRAY: Few days ago, you released a new single “Symbol Of Hope”, (which sounds incredibly good in my opinion), What inspired you to compose this song?

Denis: This song’s name pretty much stands for itself. The last couple of years were a trudge truly. First covid, now war in Ukraine… People are struggling with mental health, losing jobs, depression and at the end of the day, they’re really just trying to survive through all of this madness.
So I wrote this song with hopes that it can help people to find their inner strength, courage and guidance again. People are losing faith on a whole different level all around the world these days and I hope this song will be a glimpse of much needed light for them.

SUNRAY: Do you plan to release a studio album soon?

Denis: Yes, like I said, we’ve got an album ready and we’re getting ready to put it out to our fans. After the cycle of singles, it will definitely come out!

SUNRAY: In our first interview, you were our cover with your “Drag Me Out”, We would like to know if you have any continuing projects with the band.

Denis: Absolutely. Drag Me Out is working in the studio on a new album right now. This time I felt like I needed more time to get things right with DMO to take it to the next level. I’ve been crafting every song, every beat and every lyric thoroughly for quite a long time now. I think I wrote like a 100 different demos so far (laughs).
But in the end, all I’m trying to do is to make sure that I will have my best material hand-picked for this record. It shaped up so well and I’m hella proud of what I’ve got in the store here. I’m sure this album is gonna go down as a fan favorite!

SUNRAY: You have a beautiful mix of voices, between sweet voices and powerful screams, how do you do those vocal games in the same song?

Denis: Haha thanks! It feels essential these days, you know? Not that I’ve been trying hard to make that happen, it just flows naturally. I think I’ve built my vocal “personality” well over the past decade.
But as I grow, I think I work even harder on my vocals too. Everything takes time and effort to achieve that polished and refined sound, that’s for sure!

SUNRAY: Who’s your ideal musician to collaborate with and why?

Denis: Oh that would be Trent Reznor. I have loved that man’s music since I was 14. He blew my mind as a teenager. I feel like if we’d ever do a song together, that would end up sounding absolute bonkers, out of this world experience.

SUNRAY: What advice would you give to new bands starting?

Denis: I’d say next. Work hard and make sure you’ve got your best music here. Invest in yourselves and your music, always try to be on top of your own game. I know it’s super hard to get noticed these days so do all that it takes to put yourself on the map and the rest will follow.
Have courage to show that you’re worth it cuz if you don’t have this mindset screaming out in everything that you do – they might never even notice it!
