Prayers and There is no Us at Crescent Ballroom, Arizona
There is no Us hailing from Phoenix, AZ, fronted by well-known photographer Jim Louvau. Jim’s work ethic is second to none and whether it comes to photography or music, he is a machine that doesn’t stop. There is no us started in 2015 and in recent years they gained a cult following that’s expanding by the minute. The music reminded me a little of early American Head Charge ,mixed with Nine inch Nails. So if you’re a fan of these bands, I highly suggest checking them out and giving this band a listen. I want to point out that There is No Us takes their sound in a new direction and adds their own twist to it. It’s a straight punch to face that’s heavy with a errie melody feel to it.
Seeing them live is a whole other experience. When Jim Louvau takes the stage he is straight possessed by a demon. The aesthetic of the live show is dark. We either got all red or all blue lights. With zero front lighting. Which fits perfectly with their music and live show. Every band member compliments each other. You can feel and hear the work that has gone into this band. It’s a well oiled machine that I don’t see stopping anytime soon.
Prayers was up next and even though I’m still new to their music I was in love. So when I got word this show was rescheduled I did everything I could to cover it. I was completely thrown into the Goth void. I couldn’t help but be completely blown away by their live sound. Everything about this show fits perfectly from the two big led light panels, to the two big huge cholo bodyguards holding up swords with the prayers logo at each end of the stage. If you’re offended by satanic symbols, then it isn’t the show for you. The two huge led screens on each end of the stage displayed pentagrams, the leviathans cross, and their logo. Reyes is talented and there’s no question about that. He takes the music a step further live and pulls you in. The crescent ballroom was the perfect venue to host this show as it’s one of the more intimate venues in Phoenix, AZ.
