Paul Harries interview Rockstars Photographer

SUNRAY MAGAZINE has the big honor to interview to the Legendary Rockstar`s Photographer PAUL HARRIES.

Paul thankyou so much for this interview
SUNRAY: Tell us when started your passion for photography?
Paul: My interest in photography grew from my love of music and going to concerts. I wanted to capture those magical moments and keep them forever.

SUNRAY: How did your style evolve since you started with photography?
Paul: Photography styles constantly evolve with the advancement of technology. When I first started there wasn’t even auto focus. Before digital cameras arrived, I would choose need to think about the type of film to use in order to get the look I wanted. Now I can experiment in post-production to get the look I want; the possibilities are endless.

SUNRAY: What are your influences?
Paul: I am definitely influenced by musicians that are very theatrical.
When I was growing up I loved visually exciting bands like Adam And The Ants.

SUNRAY: What equipment do you currently use?
Paul: I have always used Canon cameras. I currently use the 5D Mk4. I also use Profoto lighting.
My most valued piece of equipment is my Think Tank camera case, it has wheels that saves me from getting a bad back!

SUNRAY: What means the photography to you?
Paul: Photography has given me the chance to work with some amazing musicians. I feel very fortunate to be part of a world I was such a big fan of when I was growing up.

SUNRAY: You have been taken photos to incredible Music Stars especially of Rock&Roll as Metallica, Nirvana, Muse, Green Day, Ozzy Osbourne, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blink 182, Slipknot, Jared Leto (30 Seconds to Mars), Craig David, Andy Biersack (Black Veil Brides) My Chemical Romance, and Chester Bennington, to name just a few. How is work with them?
Paul: Sometimes it can be brief if a shoot is arranged when the band is busy or if it’s just before they are due onstage.
But it is really nice when I get an artist for a whole afternoon, that is when you have time for the shoot to evolve and to collaborate on ideas and create something special.

SUNRAY: You have exhibited you wonderful pictures in prestigious venues in London, Manchester and Los Angeles, how was that experience?
Paul: Really nice to see my work on display but my favourite part is when I hang out and talk to people that have taken the time to visit the gallery. Some want to talk about the bands, others want to talk about photography. It’s just great to connect with people over a common interest.

SUNRAY: Paul please tell us about your book ” Slipknot: Dysfunctional Family Portraits”
Paul: I have worked with Slipknot since 1999, I put together an exhibition in 2011 and this evolved into a book release in 2015. The band were really cool about it and contributed some words. Clown was especially excited about the title.

SUNRAY: You have worked several times with Chester Bennington, this Issue is a tribute dedicated to him, can you talking about Chester?
Paul: Chester was always very friendly and polite. He was very quiet and didn’t seem like a rock star when I first met him, but then I saw him onstage…wow!
I actually still find it hard to believe he is gone.
