Dragonforce live at Teatro Vorterix Oct 17th, Argentina
We all know about Dragonforce‘ musicians skills, about their Power Metal hymns, about how hillarious is watching Herman Li on YouTube exchanging challenges with Davie504 (something that really made a lot of us laugh on loud during pandemic times). But after 12 years from their last show in Buenos Aires, many of their newest fans haven’t seen them playing live or performing.
So now, we’re gonna take heed at the band onstage. They’re back in town playing a full set (last time they play an opening act for Trivium, pretty rad line up by the way).
The opening act: Azeroth, a well known local band that is commonly seen as guest band for many international Power Metal bands, as they make the whole place shake as their songs are being played. Every time I see them on live seems like they sound better than the last time. You can never be dissapointed by them!
Around 21 hs, Dragonforce hits the stage, playing “Revolution Deathsquad”. Just by listening to this amazing song, we can surely say that the power is overwhelming and every single instrument sounds fantastic and can be easily distinguished. The lights made for every song works phenomenal and gives an own personality for each one that’s being played.
Well, let’s move forward: “Cry Thunder”. What a song, right? Knowing how loud can be the argentinian crowd you couldn’t be surprised at all if I told you that every single person in the crowd’s singing this with the most powerful voice.
“Ashes of The Dawn”, “Power of the Triforce” and “Soldiers of The Wasteland” are next on the setlist.
It is so hypnotizing watching Herman and Sam having that infinite solo battles and dual guitars parts. No matter how much you got, you always want more.
“The Last Dragonborn” and “Black Fire” (with a loud “Olé Olé Dragon Dragon” sang by the crowd. But sooner than later, the band joins the crowd and give them the music for that lyrics), followed by the classic hit “Fury of The Storm”, another top moment for the night.
“Doomsday Party” and “Valley of The Damned” end the first part of the set. A set that showed us special effects, synchronized movements by the musicians, Herman Li hitting the guitar with his knee (something that you always want to see if you have a Dragonforce ticket in your pocket. Maybe some of us have that little illussion that his guitar will break; ’cause it’s so funny when that happens to him haha).
Well, it’s something known that the crowd will sing for them to come back from backstage. So this is always that time when argentinian fans show the skills of their favourite subjects: being one of the loudest crowds of the world. Or maybe… the loudest?
They finally come onstage again and play “Highway to Oblivion”, followed by two random covers: “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion and “Wildest Dreams” by Taylor Swift.
I’m not going to end this review without taking a time to say something that everyone in the world already know. But now’s my turn to say it: every musician in the band fucking rule. I’ve talked about Herman and Sam, ’cause they’re legends. But Gee on drums is a monster, he plays a full set at the speed of light without looking tired at all, Alicia is just so charismatic and always plays with a smile on her face, Marc sings perfectly every song, it’s amazing how he hits every high note. And this guy, Billy, who plays as third guitar player on live shows, to stick to the backing riff when Herman and Sam are soloing. But hold on a second, he also play guitar solos! And he does it incredibly!
The set comes to its end. “Heart of a Dragon” and the song that everyone waited to sing along with Marc (and sing the classic guitar parts too): “Through The Fire and Flames”. Some guy in the crowd throws to Marc a Guitar Hero guitar and he pretends to play the game as the main riff sounds.
All of us have left our lungs behing in this song, you’re not a real metalhead if you don’t sing “we carry on!” as loud as you can.
Hope I can get a chance to watch them live again. It was fantastic.
