Mortiis returned to Argentina, immersed in darkness and dance.

On Saturday, October 17th, the eccentric musician Mortiis returned to Argentina. This time, he performed alongside his full band—a departure from his first two visits, during which he had showcased material from his earlier Darkwave/Dungeon Synth era. For those who favor his Electronic/Industrial Rock side, this was the perfect event; it took place at Club Cultural Bula, an ideal venue to experience this iconic, cult-status figure of dark music live.

Doors opened around 7:30 PM, with local acts Kasriel and, subsequently, Vukkeg setting the mood each bringing their own distinct style and flair and paving the way for the Norwegian artist’s return to the Argentine stage.

Shortly after 9:00 PM, Mortiis appeared with his band, hooded, as the backing track for one of the standout songs from his latest record, Ghosts of Europa, began to play. Following this mystical opening, he shed his hood, revealing his unmistakable face. He then took the audience on a journey through his most iconic album, The Smell of Rain, featuring brilliant tracks such as “Marshland,” “You Put a Hex on Me,” “Mental Maelstrom,” “Spirit in a Vacuum,” “Monolith,” and the classic “Parasite God.”
The atmosphere reminiscent of a horror film gradually shifted into that of a dark, ominous dance floor, where the mosh pit became part of the ritual, particularly during songs like “Heart of Hell,” “Demons Are Back,” and “Doppelganger.”
The night concluded with the highly anticipated “Smell the Witch,” capping off a performance that fans of Mortiis’s industrial phase had been eagerly awaiting. Once again, the Norwegian demonstrated why his approach holds a unique place within dark music, combining electronic sounds, unsettling atmospheres, and a signature style that breaks away from the traditional conventions of metal. It was an evening to reconnect with one of the most intense and singular facets of his extensive career.
